I can't say I've been particularly impressed with The National in the past though they are generally held in high regard by press and punters alike. I've always thought of them as a bit of a Violent Femmes rip-off infused with overly dramatic modern production techniques. 'Bloodbuzz Ohio' only confirms this for me but it's by no means a bad tune. Sorta like a US version of Doves with a better vocal delivery. The B-side is also pretty good too but the winning element for me is the outstanding Mark Fox sleeve art. It's well swish.
