The Big Pink have finally grown up and released a record sleeve without boobs or men bumming on it. I believe this is their first 'clean' sleeve and for that the boys should be congratulated. This one is all pink themed and it comes with a weird joined double elastic band thingy which really is the most pointless thing I've ever seen. I have a feeling it has a great purpose but I'm too ignorant to kow what that is. I suspect it's something filthy. Musically they've still got that epic Big Pink sound and they still sound a wee bit like Kasabian (ie sports indie) courtesy of Mr Production Paul Epworth (the man fingering the controls). Sweet Dreams on the flip is a more interesting proposition... it's a much gentler tune without the pomp and glory and it feels sincere. So I'm not mad keen on the A side, I like the B side and I'm unsure on the laggy band thing til I find a use for it.
The Big Pink have had a hectic time of it since the release of their
debut album, ’A Brief History of Love’. Outside of the success of the
record and doing numerous TV performances on shows like ’Later
With... Jools Holland’, they've also not stopped touring with Europe,
North America, Japan and Australasia all reached. Included in these
were festival slots like Reading, Glastonbury and Summersonic as
well as playing with Muse on their UK Arena tour.
They started 2010 with the formal release of the single, 'Velvet', and
joined The Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Drums on
the annual NME Awards Tour.
They also won Best Track at the NME Awards themselves and
performed the track in question, 'Dominos', with Lily Allen on the night.
'Tonight' is the latest single to be taken from the album and will be
available on limited edition 7” vinyl (1000 copies).
This version differs from the album version and was recorded with Paul
Epworth back at the controls. The record comes with the b-side, 'Sweet
Dreams', an unlikely Beyonce cover that has become a staple in their live set.
