Smegma - S/T

S/T by Smegma

4...according to our on Thu 01 Apr, 2010.

Smegma are total leg-ends in my eyes. That a band coming from the legendarily demented Los Angeles Free Music Society scene has made something resembling a long-term career is pretty remarkable in itself, but factor in the general quality of their stuff and you'd be hard pushed to say that they're anything other than a bunch of real swell guys and/or gals. Side one here comes from the LAFMS Telethon Revisited event and is a heavy, rhythmic, jazz-inflected riff grind that's as head-noddy as anything I've ever heard them do.. It almost sounds like later Destroy All Monsters attempting to invent stoner repeato-rock actually. Side two features a pair of tracks more in the noodly, freeform Dada-type sound collage style and they're also pretty damned good. Some other people join in the fun at unspecified points here too - Ju Suk Reet Meate, Liz Young, John Wiese, Dennis Duck and many more!
