The Television Personalities - You’re My Yoko

You’re My Yoko by The Television Personalities

This isn't too bad. Shimmering pop from the T.P's, that has a sort of dreamy comedown quality to it. Its a pretty strong single, it reminds me of loads of things, but in the classic tradition of good song smithery, its also quite tricky to pin down. It has a great sleeve, the tunes memorable (what did I just listen to etc) and I think its a potential winner!!

This limited edition, coloured vinyl 7” features ‘You’re My Yoko’, the first single taken from the forthcoming TVPs album due out on June 1st. Cult legends in every sense of the word, the band formed in 1977 while still at school; their EP the following year, 'Where’s Bill Grundy Now?' contained the legendary ‘Part-Time Punks’ – a long-time favourite of John Peel, and still a classic track of its kind today. Led by the legendary and idiosyncratic Dan Treacy – the bands one constant. Their mixture of neo-psychedelia, pop and punk spread over nearly twenty albums has inspired generations of devotees, including everyone from Creation Records to Kurt Cobain. The bands colourful and erratic history – taking in addiction, homelessness, nervous breakdowns, insanity, numerous line-up changes, and all points in-between – have ensured that while they may never have reaped huge commercial success, they most definitely have never been boring.
