Deadbeat - Radio Rothko (CD)

I can remember it vividly, one hot summers night in my friend Adam's garage retreat, listening to him mixing records on his 1210's  > Robert Hood, Jeff MIlls etc. The area filled with smoke and then it came in… "What the fuck is this?" I asked. "Basic Channel" he replied, I got up and looked at the label. It was "Phylyps Track". I was blown away, I had that rare feeling that I was hearing something I'd been waiting my whole life to here. Later in the mix 'Octagon' made an appearance. I posed the same question and received the same reply. It was a revelation and those records had a profound effect on me. The godfathers of dub techno no doubt, as they have inspired a whole wave of producers. And so Scape artist Deadbeat has a mighty fine dub techno mix out that takes in 19 tracks by the originators and later innovators such as Various Artists (T++), Deepchord, Quantec, Intrusion, 2562, Monolake, Mikkel Metal, Maurizio, Basic Channel, Rhythm & sound, Substance & Vainquer etc. as well as 3 Deadbeat tracks. Its a great selection that will appeal to followers of the genre and will hopefully also get some new blood checking out the stuff and digging out some of the vinyls. In the mix is Pendle Coven's overlooked track 'Exigen' and is one of my recent post BC faves. Deadbeat has done an excellent job on the sequencing and mixing and it flows seamlessly. The deep pulsating rhythms, metallic chords and infinite space mapped out by the delay in this stuff really sends me places. This is highly recommended.
