The latest LP from Trans Am has all the correct ingredients. Bass guitars sounding like they have been beamed in from the future. Rotor tom fills that remind me of Ghostbusters 2. Vocoder vocals that Frampton would wank off a tramp for. Massive production on some parts, minimalist electro on others. These guys have their houses in order. Some of this album is hugely danceable, other moments are quietly reflective. Its an interesting beast, a jilted cyborg lover, an ever changing mouse scurrying along on the dancing wheel of chance. They manage to remind me of a million things yet its hard to pin them down. You could say "this bits well Miami Vice" or you could say "This parts well Neverending Story" but you may well be off the mark still. The musicianship's totally sweet, you guys, and its rewarding to hear China cymbals played with such gusto. I reckon it sits well with Trans Ams better albums, and I reckon its Trans Am (azing) in parts...Im off to get coked up with some Bolivian models (male not female....) Ohhhhh!!• ‘Thing’ is a wreckage of sorts. The project was originally commissioned as a sci-fi, horror adaptation of ‘Romeo & Juliet’. When funding for that project fell apart, Trans Am forged on with their own album. To capture the feeling of exhaustion and paranoia demanded by ‘Thing’, Trans Am remained at their recording studio until the early morning, occasionally exiting to run up and down the hills of San Francisco. All vocals were recorded during recovery from these sessions.
• ‘Thing’ is the first Trans Am studio album since 2007’s ‘Sex Change’ and follows right after the band’s almost sold out 2LP & DVD live collection ‘What Day Is It Tonight?’.
• Trans Am will be touring worldwide in support of ‘Thing’. • ‘Thing’ is the band’s ninth studio album in their legendary 15+ year career.
• The CD version comes in a 4 panel mini-LP style gatefold package. The LP comes in a old-style tip-on LP jacket with inner sleeve and free MP3 download coupon.
