Lucky Soul - A Coming Of Age

A Coming Of Age by Lucky Soul

Lucky Soul. Oh yeah, I must be to get their new album to review. I don't understand this silicone 60's Motown inspired pop & 70s MOR slop. Like Duffy & the more disposable elements of the (original) Pipettes, this is fairly nattily produced, swinging radio fare for drivetimers, Radio 2 mums & nostalgic indie kids who'll buy owt as long as it's got a tidy blonde chick at the helm. The music here is by no means awful, just kind of safe, boring & predictable. Better than Kate Nash so at least their aiming their sights higher than a scabby hole in the floor. The poster with this CD is one of the shittest things i've laid my hands on this year & i've had to pick up a lot of takeaway leaflets out of my letterbox recently.

•    “Lucky Soul are already huge. With 'A Coming Of Age', these pop dreamers have made the record which deserves to make that a reality” - Independent On Sunday, "Timeless perfect pop... a rush of adrenalised, chorus- blessed hits” – Uncut, "Here's a song to listen to on repeat all week” – Popjustice, "Since shimmying and shaking their way to one of the best indie pop albums of 2007, these English guitar romantics must've been hitting the gym. Why shimmy when you can strut?" – Pitchfork.
