Their last album I loved the artwork for so much I wholesale stole the cover design for it a couple of years ago for some painting I was fannying with. As ever, i'd be heartily encouraging you to delve into their vortex of psychedelic stoner scuzz but now they've gone and mellowed haven't they? 'The Sweet Relief of Reunion' is a sublime piece of pacey psychedelic pop/rock that has organ, trumpets & clarinet running through it. They've further confused me by producing this grand, shimmering piece of tender majesty that doesn't so much rock, more like lay out on a huge fleecy blanket and roll round on it purring whilst eating raw tuna steak. It's numbered of 100 copies is this CD single, they're both really well excecuted pieces of modern psych from different realms. This limited edition single, the first part of a trilogy of releases
from the London psych masters Notorious Hi-fi Killers,
illustrates perfectly the sweet and sour duplicity for which they
are known. The complete set of tracks, originally conceived as
an album, has been broken into complimentary segments
marking a period of musical transition, and will be followed by a
full length release of new material planned for later this year.
The title track The Sweet Relief of Reunion breaks open with the pounding drum and bass
locomotion of their earlier fuzz-drenched garage stylings. Contrasted by She Is The Door, which
cascades a joyous melancholy in it’s slow burning jaws.
Harnessing a lighter, more psychedelic sound, the bands original members Jonathan Richards
and Tony Mountford are joined by Hungarian drumming powerhouse Tamas Kiss. Last year saw
a successful tour of Europe, with previews from the forthcoming release being aired by Tom
Robinson on BBC6 and championed across the music press. The band continue to play shows
throughout the UK, opening up their audience by playing alongside the likes of Spectrum, The
Heads, Monotonix, White Hills and Alexander Tucker .
