Yowch. Lasse Marhaug's Jazkamer seem to be doing a release for every month of this year they're calling 2010 and here are three of them. I picked up Solitary Nail as the background music for this review because it's got a cool picture of some sort of aztec stabbing party on the back but it turns out that it's actually the January release so it ended up being kind of logical too. Here his trio go nuts on some noisy power electronic-type improv shit that'll clean your ears out, strip the skin off and set your skull on fire. Quelle surprise. Fight the natural urge to run far, far away, relax into it a little bit and you might be persuaded that this isn't as far away from the jazz from which they borrowed half of their name as it might first appear. The live group dynamic is obviously one link but I also know that I listen to harsh, complex noise and the more freeform strands of jazz in really similar ways and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. The March edition of Jazkamer's 2010 monthly CD-series. Free-form funk-noise.
