Remixes! Let's listen to some! Claro Intellecto kicks it off with an expertly crafted techno groover built for maximum dancefloor slayage. Deep and ever so slightly dubby, it has me thinking of Maurizio and the like. The ever-reliable Redshape takes the baton and runs with it for a typically moody leg, feeding elements in and out with precision timing to forge a tune that's as much for the head as the feet. Silicone Soul mine a rich sweeping synth ambience and add in an odd hybridisation of funky slap bass and dubstep wobble which makes for a hugely satisfying bit of robo-disco. Octogen applies the finishing move with cut-ups of abstract electronica that somehow magically come together to form a very palpable groove before evolving into a more straight-up house type tune. Four very different, and successful, approaches to the source material.Kicking off this remix package is fellow Northerner Mark Stewart, aka Claro Intelecto, with his rollicking take on ‘Northern Electronic Soul’.
‘CCTV Nation’ is ironically treated by the anonymous man in the mask, Redshape, followed by Silicone Soul, who combines a slap funk b-line with the original synths, pads and shimmering percussion on their ‘Skinclock’ remix.
‘Kissing Someone Else’s D.O.G.’ is reworked by the on-form Octogen, aka Marco Bernardi, in his typically off-the-wall fashion.
