Jeff The Brotherhood - U Got the Look

U Got the Look by Jeff The Brotherhood

4...according to our on Wed 17 Mar, 2010.

Jeff is my favourite word. I prefix everything with Jeff that I'm even slightly fond of. Jeff pub, jeff fags, jeff records. Jeff band. Jeff the Brotherhood is a jeff band & they do actually manage to brilliantly combine melodic punk-pop with a cool downtuned stoner sound that makes them sound somewhere between early Dinosaur Jr, Foo Fighters, Jay Reatard & a spot of Death From Above 1979. Anyone heard of Doug Martsch's pre-Built To Spill band Treepeople? They did this kinda thang really well. 'U Got the Look' is tragically NOT a Roxette cover but a fabulously fuzzy, lovable romp infused with excellent hooks & a particularly mercurial kind of energy you'd expect from ex-Be Your own PET dude Jamin Orrall. Oh...and his bro' Jake is involved in this project. The flip 'The Tropics' is a more bluesy, downtempo head nodder that still sounds powerful & wickedly produced. Looking forward to an album from these guys...

The third instalment in the third year of limited 7” releases on the Too Pure Singles Club (borne from the ashes of the celebrated London indie label) sees JEFF The Brotherhood make their European debut with the double A side of ‘U Got The Look’ b/w ‘The Tropics’.

From Nashville, JEFF The Brotherhood are two brothers - Jake and Jamin Orrall - noted for being either stoner-rock or power-pop, or indeed, somewhere raucous in between. Their debut album, Heavy Days, is out now in the States on Infinity Cat (the label responsible for also unearthing Jamin's old band, be your own PET) and these two tracks are lifted from that. Sadly, the band won't be in the UK around release as they have huge touring commitments back home but those lucky enough to be at SXSW this year will have plenty of chances to see them. Word has it that their live shows are pretty explosive…
