Extra Wow by Nice Nice

4...according to our on Thu 01 Apr, 2010.

More Warpyness courtesy of Portland based Nice Nice and their new album 'Extra Wow'. Kicking things of with a psychedelic outburst that evokes a Lightning Bolt if they smoked mega chongs everyday kinda vibe before kicking into single 'One Hit'. Coming across as lot more aggressive than i originally remember this single, i'm drawn to the Franz Ferdinand in mid transition riff (that one in 'Take Me Out') and Mark Arm (Mudhoney) style vocal line. Elsewhere Nice Nice explore noise, drone, psychedelia, shoegaze as well as the afrobeat terrain they have touched on in previous outings. 'Extra Wow' sounds very much of the moment, incorporating elements from all over to enhance their future vision for music. It is both fun and accessible whilst hinted at hidden depths that will, no doubt reveal themselves with further listens.

•    Described as “terrifying psychedelic electrickery” by Time Out, Nice Nice release their new album ‘Extra Wow’.

•    The album’s release follows the release of two limited 7” singles, ‘One Hit’ and ‘See Waves’. It also follows the band’s first slew of UK dates which saw them support the likes of Battles, Broadcast and Wavves at the tail end of 2009.

•    The album itself is typically monstrous, diverse and layered, a powerful first impression skipping amongst ‘noise’ / drone music (Zu, Earth, Lightning Bolt) to more rhythmic, structured artists (Fuck Buttons, Pivot), via psychedelia / showgaze and more Eno-esque sounds.

•    The band will be touring with Trans Am in the US up to release, and following release supporting Holy Fuck on tour.

•    “Every so often I like it when a certain piece of music is, well, so loud and thrillingly jolting that it literally feels like it’s beating me round the chops...so to wake up to the aptly titles ‘One Hit in my inbox this morning was really a rather lovely surprise” – NME.com.

•    “Already known in their locale of Portland, Oregon as one of the hottest bands on the circuit, Warp has now signed up this duo” – Artrocker.

•    “A rhythmic exercise in beats, loops, and swirling synths, complete with a few chanted vocals, tinkling keyboards, and a vaguely Gang Gang Dance-like aftertaste” – Pitchfork.

•    Available on CD and limited edition double LP with a free download code (300 copies).
