Apparently these are the biggest unsigned band in the country. They've a kind of familiar commercial female fronted indie-pop sound that sounds OK on first listen then descends into generic hell soon afterwards. They also employ some amped-up shoegaze dynamics to bolster what is essentially a fairly weak tune (a bit like The Big Pink) and they then blend them with these kind of punchy Soulwax-esque euro-rock structures (IE staple on some very anthemic harmonies) that would probably sound quite effective on the Zane Lowe show. Unfortunately, I'm not 15 years old any more so this kind of effort is lost on me.• After sold out UK tours, tours of Japan and the States, the UKs biggest unsigned band, The Joy Formidable release their first single in six months.
• To support the single, the band play their largest UK tour to date, including a show at Camden’s Electric Ballroom.
• Available on limited edition 7” (500 copies).

This single leads the fear that TJF may already have written, produced and performed their finest material before they are really in the public gaze (Buy A Balloon Called Moaning - the so called EP which is really an album) - this is noisy and more nirvana-esque than any of their other releases (which are much finer, much more subtle and much more interesting records).Better than most indie rock out there but not as good as they have been - but they do rock it live!
