Kleenex / Liliput - Live Recordings, TV-Clips & Roadmovie

Live Recordings, TV-Clips & Roadmovie by Kleenex / Liliput

4...according to our on Fri 11 Feb, 2011.

The second release by Kleenex/Liliput is a live CD entitled 'Live Recordings, TV Clips and Road Movie'. The first ten tracks were recorded in Biel (when they were still called Kleenex) and the rest were recorded in Zurich in 1983. The DVD is a document of their 1982 European tour and includes TV studio quality sound and video as well as super-8 footage. The sound recording is obviously of its time so don't go expecting anything too sleek but it documents that moment in the late '70's when the DIY punk ethic was at its strongest and where rudimentary musicians were unafraid to battle away with complex rhythms and strong structures, angry and uninhibited social commentary. Once again The Slits are the most obvious comparison, this is taut, angular scratchy lo-fi female post punk that deserved not to be forgotten.

· Kleenex formed in Switzerland in 1978 but had to change
their name to LiLiPUT in 1979 due to the threat of legal action
from Kimberly-Clark. They released their debut album on
Rough Trade in 1982 (now a sought after and very high cost
item), filled with LiLiPUT’s exuberant sound, combining spirited
thrashy post-punk with unconventional vocals and lyrics (both
in English and German).
· They are in the same league as The Raincoats (who they
frequently toured with) Delta 5, The Slits, Swell Maps,
Essential Logic and Bush Tetras.
· The first ten tracks were recorded in Biel (when they were still
called Kleenex) and the rest were recorded in Zurich in 1983
and includes some never before released songs and the
sounds of a world-class band in their prime. The DVD is a
document of their 1982 European tour and includes TV
studio quality sound and video as well as super-8
footage.
· “Their influence can be heard through-out the riot-girl Diaspora
of modern times, but LiLiPUT managed one crucial difference:
they made radical social and aesthetic re-engineering sound
like the greatest party you’ve ever been to in your life” –
Pitchfork 2001.
