American Men - Cool World EP

Cool World EP by American Men

American Men are a three-piece synthetic rock band formed of Claude Speed, Alilloyd, and Scottt Chevrolet - members of Dananananakroyd and other obscure and fantastic Glasgow rock bands. Theirs is a sound like no other : uplifting, driving synth music accompanied by tightly-syncopated live drums. Their debut release, ‘Cool World’, features five shimmering tracks of unclassifiable genius being hyped across a span of rock and electronic genres. American Men represent a new tone for the often dry scene of math and post-rock, but then this is not a band who are singularly satisfied with their genre. True to the form of the Lucky Me label, these guys are inspired by commercial electronic music and pop as much as avant rock. ‘Cool World’ is prog for a generation raised on Boards of Canada and short attention spans, evoking childhood visions of the future, laser etched nazca lines, a city of pyramids and modernist skyscrapers … fun, crafty, cinematic music playing with time signatures without losing its bright optimism and danceability. American Men’s debut BBC Radio One live session this week will be followed by interviews and features in Dazed Digital and Urb, plus music streams on the high-traffic XLR8R and FACT websites. A remix project is already in the works with versions from Ikonika (Hyperdub / Planet Mu), Hudson Mohawke (Warp / Lucky Me), Falty DL (Planet Mu / Ramp), and Dorian Concept (Kindred Spirits / Affine). Each 12" comes with a code to download free high quality MP3s of all tracks.
