Jannick Schou - Night

Night by Jannick Schou

4...according to our on Fri 26 Feb, 2010.

Jannik Schou has a CD out on Under The Spire. It's limited to 150 copies and it comes in their regular arigato pak job with a nice shiny black and white photo insert thingy. 'Night' is a 4 track ambient droney beast like so many others which have graced these weekly updates. It's the whole closing your eyes floating in space job or
hanging around the clouds with ambient drone pixies while they perennially swap velvet pillows from under your head to keep you cosy. It's important to be cosy as well. It blows being cold.... I'm having to wear 2 hats at the mo which makes me look like a right prick. Anyway this is lovely if you're after more of that floatyness!!

"Night is a 23-minutes long EP I made during September and November 2009. The idea was to create a handful of tracks that could companion and characterize the dark and cold autumn/winter nights in which it was recorded.

The EP was recorded solely during the night using multiply layers of processed guitar and piano recordings. Most of these recordings were improvised. The four pieces were (mostly) recorded using tapes and an old tape delay – this added a sort of ‘grainy’ and washed out sound to the pieces. It also gave them a “human fragility”: at times it feels like they’re going to fall apart at the slightest gesture.

The overall sound is somewhat minimal and all of the pieces evolve through subtle changes in timbre and dynamic: four minimal, melancholic and nocturnal pieces that I really enjoyed making. I hope you’ll like them. "
