Out of the Blew by Acid Kirk

My single of the week is from a relatively reclusive Belgian legend, Acid Kirk. Cédric Stevens has been producing 303 drenched classics for years now, many under different pseudonyms but this EP on WeMe is a total fresh blast with a mind melting classic Braindance feel. Combing full throttle old-skool textures on 'Hillary Fuzz Station Wagon', with some of the maddest cosmic synth & squelch action i've heard in a long time; the closest comparison I can muster is the best of the Analord stuff crossed with the more frantic bits from the Wisp album but with a wild abandon & feel all of its own. The relatively orthodox breakbeat gives the track real dancefloor velocity and allows him to layer the tune with increasingly manic production techniques. Powerful stuff! The flip 'In Between Days' is not a Cure cover but a brilliant slice of gurgling, fizzing acid-flecked electronica that quietly recalls the best bits of early Bitstream, Gescom & Octagon Man. I could also imagine it appearing on B12 records as it has so many classic hallmarks stamped all over its slinky, woozy features & it may be the best track on the record. ' Broken Arrow' finishes off the job with a low key mid-paced acid number with a discreet 4/4 kick and lots of eerie synths crawling amongst the downbeat wreckage & insectoid squiggles. The best new techno record i've heard in an age!!

Acid Kirk is one of the first Belgian undergound techno wave icons, making sort of a comeback these days. Delivering dark, no blend, pure malt acid!
