Hoodlum Shouts - Horses and Human Hands

Horses and Human Hands by Hoodlum Shouts

4...according to our on Thu 25 Feb, 2010.

This is a self release by the group Hoodlum Shouts who ply their trade in low slung, semi grunge, alt-country sounds you may associate with Low, Retribution Gospel Choir, Mule and, to an extent, things like Isis and Neurosis. Not quite as brutal as the latter and no where near as subtle as the former, Hoodlum Shouts are obviously angry about something but they don't let that interfere with a good melody. Instrumentally the group are stripped down and sparse letting emotive vocal-ism dictate the tone of each tune. Totally rocking, emotive stuff.

Beautifully brooding, 'Horses And Human Hands' by Hoodlum Shouts speak of hardships, tragedy and refusal. Instrumentation is minimal but the way they use space and tone within the crystal clear melodies make for the perfect soundtrack to a road trip through country towns, like memories of the past in lush detail. A great meeting of a visceral voice, rumbling low-end, guitar twang/noise and loose-limbed rhythms.
For fans of Low, The Dirty Three, Slint, Isis.
