These chaps are super busy releasing loads of releases to keep your ears filled with experimental music of the highest order. The most recent addition to the Sonic Oyster family is a CD by Richard Youngs and Andrew Paine called 'Guide To Music'. I'd like to think this is their guide to music and will be taught in schools. One day! Anyhoo this is primarily pretty mellow music with strummy guitars with an emphasis on slow and brooding. There's plenty of fuzz and crackles in the background and occasionally some feedback will appear to add to the mix. Youngs' unique vocals pop up on 'Rock 'n Roll Sun' and it sounds a bit like a singing lesson with him changing notes going up and down all over the shop. I guess the title is starting to make some sort of sense to me! The final track 'Canadian Pharmacy' is pretty cool. It reminds me of the last Evan Caminiti CD on Digitalis... Doomy cowboy music! Numbered of 100 copies and well worth checking out!Richard and Andrew provide you with another 'singular release' - a range of oblique and idiosyncratic references from the musical spectrum. The whole thing represents a collision of popular styles, providing an energetic, exciting tour of undiscovered musical hinterlands.
