Peter Gordon & Love Of Life Orchestra - Another Heartbreak

Another Heartbreak by Peter Gordon & Love Of Life Orchestra

DFA Records presents Another Heartbreak a three-song, two-sidedsingle from Love of Life Orchestra, the forthcoming retrospective albumby legendary NYC composer Peter Gordon.Side one remixes Another Heartbreak and Don t Don t Redux, two vintage cuts that made noise all over again in 2007 when LCDSoundsystem s James Murphy and Pat Mahoney used them to openand close the much-played dance compilation Fabriclive 36. The enthusiasticreaction spurred DFA to sign Gordon to release an albumthat showcases work better known to dance music insiders than to thegeneral public. Another Heartbreak is Gordon s own remix of his classic Beginningof the Heartbreak. A key underground track from the downtowndays, it first appeared on the 1979 Love of Life Orchestra EP ExtendedNiceties. Originally produced by Gordon and Kurt Munkacsi, it featuredOrchestra co-founders Gordon and David van Tieghem alongwith David Byrne and Arto Lindsay. For this edit and remix, Gordonreinterpreted the lyrical and haunting sax lead and added a fresh perspectivewith new synthesizer parts. Don t Don t Redux is a reworking of Don t Don t, also fromExtended Niceties. Building on the sampled hook of the original Don t Don t featuring Rebecca Armstrong, Iris Hiskey and DoraOhrenstein (singers of the Steve Reich and Philip Glass groups), thisnew version features a cast of Ned Sublette, Larry Saltzman, MarthaMooke, Paul Nowinski and the polyrhythmic powerhouse thatis Robby Ameen. As a final touch, Gordon brought in horns worthyof the track: on trumpet, the ferocious Brian Lynch (bandleader andlongtime featured soloist with Eddie Palmieri) and Saturday NightLive bandleader / sax master Lenny Pickett.Side two, That Hat, was recorded in 1984 as part of Gordon saward-winning score for the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane dance spectacleSecret Pastures, and has never been released on record until now.A songwriting collaboration by Gordon with the late Arthur Russell,it features Gordon on sax, Russell on voice and cello, New York DollDavid Johansen in peak form as his vocal foil (and on harmonica),and Rebecca Armstrong, whose wordless soprano voice is as accurateas a keyboard. Also on board are Love of Life Orchestra regularsvan Tieghem and Sublette.
