Supernatural Lancashire / Natural Lancashire by Sam McLoughlin & Alison Cooper

4...according to our on Thu 04 Mar, 2010.

Sam McLoughlin and Alison Cooper are the two talented imps responsible for this double header on Disposable Music - 'Natural Lancashire'/'Supernatural Lancashire'. Intended as a sort of "soundtrack" to the various cultural & traditional aspects of this vast Northern region, 'Natural Lancashire' consists of short-ish instrumental folk passages, both deeply evocative & charmingly melancholic. Like the incidental score to an imaginary, grainy documentary on life in the region, this lovely collection of twinkly miniatures encourages content thoughts of an idyllic nature. 'Supernatural Lancashire' is aimed more at the spook & ghoul fan, the kind of person who delves deeply into affairs of the supernatural, reads Fortean Times and is fascinated by dark crevices & creaky doors. An eerie, knee trembling journey with many class hauntological elements! Some utterly beautiful music on both sides of this record; two very different moods explored. Like the best "library" music, this has a transcendental, magical timeless quality to it.

Finders Keepers presents Disposable Music, a vinyl transcription disc series produced
especially for the film, television and radio industries, to the highest professional standards.

Released on limited edition vinyl, with each side separately titled, ‘Supernatural
Lancashire’ / ‘Natural Lancashire’ is the latest instalment from the Disposable
Music series, courtesy of Sam McLoughlin (Samandtheplants) and Alison
Cooper (Magpahi).

wonders of the region it is packed full of superb sonic images of treasures both
common and rare, intended to stimulate the general listener than inform.

‘Supernatural Lancashire’ delves into the mysteries, myths and strange phenomena
of the old county of Lancashire. From Windermere in the north to Warrington in the
south, Liverpool in the west and Manchester in the east the author has produced a
thoroughly researched and entertaining record. Including stories of ghosts, witchcraft
and mermaids, plus cases of close encounters poltergeists and alien big cats,
experience the dark forces released during a performance at Liverpool’s Neptune
Theatre, the lift in the derelict Southport hotel which continued to operate even while
it was being demolished, the puma-like creature that terrified a teenage girl in Bolton
and a UFO which hovered over a car in Nelson, draining it of power – and much, much
more.
