The third and final single from last year's 'Why There Are Mountains', 'Wind Phoenix' is a belter of an indie rock number with lashings of brass, vocals and tasteful ambience. Falling somewhere between the drama of Mercury Rev/Flaming Lips and the grungy indie pop of Built to Spill, Cymbals Eat Guitars make relatively odd pop singles from the sounds of it. They also know how to rock out. Backed with a relatively respectful cover of Elliot Smith's 'Ballad Of Big Nothing' that jingles and jangles it's way to a tasteful, reverberant finale.Cymbals Eat Guitars release a standout track from their album ‘Why There Are Mountains’, backed
with an exclusive cover of Elliot Smith’s ‘Ballad Of Big Nothing’.
‘Wind Phoenix’ is the third and final single taken from Cymbals Eat
Guitars’ critically acclaimed debut album ‘Why There Are Mountains’.
They will be returning to the UK for a run of dates preceding their next
single. Expect to see Cymbals Eat Guitars at festivals across the summer.
‘Wind Phoenix’ showcase the band’s ability to pair chaotic yelps and
sinuous riffs from lead singer / guitarist Joseph D’Agostino with
pounding drums alongside melodic bass lines and lush orchestral layers
from Brian Hamilton’s keyboards.
