El Goodo - Coyote

Coyote by El Goodo

Southern Welsh boyos El Goodo return with their second album of blissed psychedelic 60s/70s radio pop, this 11 track long baby being called 'Coyote'. Named after one of Alex Chilton & Co's best loved tunes, these lads have a wonderfully authentic & easygoing sound. 'Aren't You Grand' sports a mellow Morricone vibe whilst covering similar ground to The Coral & Erland & the Carnival. Apparently unconcerned with bringing owt new to the table, this is "comfortsound 2010" - old music recycled in a nostalgic & loving way, & very sweetly produced. I used to get really cynical about bands relentlessly mining the past for inspiration but when it's done this well you have to concede it's still what a lot of folk desire. So, modern retro psych with a mariachi edge from Wales, land of flares & tinted spectacles. Long may it flourish.

El Goodo’s second harmony-drenched album at last gets an official physical release courtesy of London’s Dell’Orso Records having had a U.S digital only release in 2009 on Grease Records.

Single was voted record of the week on Radcliffe/ Maconie Radio 2 show (beating Animal Collective!) followed
by a session for the show and further album track plays

Based in South Wales, the band recorded Coyote in their own studio before going on to mix it with Cian Ciaran from Super Furry Animals at the controls. Indeed El Goodo (named after the classic Big Star tune) first came to the public’s attention when SFA released their self-titled debut on the Placid Casual label.

Highlights from the album include the single ‘I Saw Her Today’ with its swirling keyboards, galloping rhythms, mariachi horns and frequent nods to Morricone; and the baroque pop of ‘Don’t Worry Marie’, a short and sweet combination of Left Banke hooks and Teenage Fanclub melodies. Throughout the album there are further signs of influences from The Beach Boys to West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and Love all recorded with a zeal only recently achieved by The Coral. But it is the final track, ‘I Only Dream' which first caught Dell’orso's attention, a folk-noir classic like Os Mutantes writing the score for ‘Race With The Devil'. Warren Oates would undoubtedly approve.

Album track 'Talking To The Birds' to be featured on April issue of Word magazine's covermount CD.

El Goodo spent the summer playing gigs and festivals including Somerset House supporting Super Furry Animals and the Secret Garden Party. The single ‘ I Saw Her Today’ will be released on the 25th of January. They are currently recording their third album.
