Wolf People - Tidings

Tidings by Wolf People

Apparently this lot are the first British band to be signed to Jagjaguwar. "BIG WOW" I hear you say but still, I thought it was worth mentioning. I kinda knew what to expect from these guys based on past releases and that Laughing Windows thing which featured one of the members but for the uninitiated I shall describe them. Erm.. It's actually quite hard because they combine so many little bits from classic bands of the 60s and 70s but don't sound completely like any of them. There's a bit of your blues rock, a bit of your Gong-y Canterbury thing, a little touch of the Krautrock jam bands, a tinge of Incredible String Band-style psychedelic folk and LOADS more. Basically this sounds like it was recorded on vintage tapes with vintage guitars on vintage amps with vintage dust. Retro but nice.

• First release on Jagjaguwar from Wolf People – an alchemist’s compendium of English classic rock that has been doused in wine, its pages left red-stained, blurred and melded in the most interesting ways.

•    Live shows last year with the likes of Dinosaur Jr, Tinariwen, Witchcraft, Sleepy Sun, Malcolm Mooney, Akron/Family and Voice Of The Seven Woods, plus a Club Uncut show with Kurt Vile, has won the band a staunch and loyal following.
