Quasi - American Gong

American Gong by Quasi

4...according to our on Thu 18 Feb, 2010.

Haven't heard owt from Quasi in a while. Originally consisting of Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss, they have in recent years enlisted the skills of Joanna Bolme of Stephen Malkmus's The Jicks on bass. Nowadays they seem to ply a trade in classic americana infused indie rock...and they do it really well too. Mixing scuzzy rock influences with poppier Apples in Stereo-esque songwriting skills makes for both a refreshing and reliable listening experience. Reminds me of the playfulness of Field Music's new LP but a little rougher around the edges. For those of you unfamiliar with the bands sixteen year history, you'll be pleased to hear that this release comes with a retrospective anthology so you can do some catching up.

• Quasi, whose members have performed stints in Sleater-Kinney, Heatmiser, and Stephen Malkmus' Jicks, will be performing at the Pavement curated ATP Festival in Minehead, and are soon to announce further UK and European dates for the Spring.
Initial orders of the CD come with a bonus CD ‘So Far, So Good: A Quasi Anthology’ which catalogues the greatness of Quasi over their sixteen years in action.

•    Once the initial 2CD runs out, the format will revert to a single CD version (WIGCD242).

•Also available on vinyl LP, with download code for the full album.
