...according to our Phil on 25 February 2010.

How on Earth did A Sunny Day In Glasgow get so good. It seems unfair that one band should have all the goodness when there's so many shit bands out there... Each record they make just seems to get better and better... I couldn't believe how good the debut was and then they dropped their last album on my face. Yowserz.... Then came 'Nitetime Rainbows' around the corner where it makes a mockery of the previous 2 releases, throws them to the floor, stamps on their faces until they're bleeding and useless. On this clear vinyl only beast you get 7 tracks in total.... You get the stellar 'Nitetime Rainbows' from 'Ashes Grammar' ... You get 3 brand new tracks and you get 3 remixes of the lead track by The Buddy System, Benoit Pioulard and Ezekiel Honig. Their sound has been even more refined on this EP. The melding of C86, shoegaze and electronic music is second to none. I know it's nothing new but I can't think of a band who've done it as well as A Sunny Day In Glasgow. 'Daytime Rainbows' is a total treat with its wonky guitars and driving bass line which sound like they're crashing down around each other but they manage to keep it tidy. 'Piano Lessons' reminds me a bit of Stereolab with it's fuzzy cyclical bassline.... Then the ethereal vocals come in and the layers of wonkiness and I'm just totally absorbed. It's total fuzzy pop and there's very little that gets me excited these days new records-wise but this band continues to do the business! Quite possibly the best indie band for me since MBV and there is certainly a bit of that in there as well. I could go on but I won't.... Actually I will say the Benoit Pioulard remix is awesome and will appeal to fans of Tim Hecker etc...) Fuck this is good....

What their label says...

Clear Vinyl!! LIMITED TO 300 FOR UK ONLY!! . An album of some of their brightest sounding songs to date. These are the sounds of a band falling in love, a band having fun. "Nitetime rainbows" always struck the band as a song that could be its own album, let alone EP/single. It was one of the most fun songs to record on Ashes Grammar, and it has the most elaborate & strange instruments on it -- from vibes to lap steel to bulbul tarang. Its partner song, "Daytime rainbows," was originally intended to appear on the full length but the band needed a bit more time to develop it. "So bloody, so tight" is one of the band's absolute favorite songs they've recorded to date & it's easy to hear why. The song is full of hope in a way the band has only hinted at previously. While the vocals are still low in the mix, the lyrics for this song are the first the band has ever shared. "Piano lessons" was the result of Ben, who cannot play the piano, sitting at the baby grand for many, many hours one night. By the end of the night he was deliriously pounding the keys, mashing as many as he could with his palms flat. Also includes three remixes by THE BUDDY SYSTEM, BENOIT PIOULARD & EZEKIEL HONIG.
