The Low Anthem - To The Ghosts Who Write History Books

To The Ghosts Who Write History Books by The Low Anthem

For some reason the delivery of the vocal on this track reminds me of the lilted melancholy of James Taylor with added Dylanism's. The lyrics seem misty eyed and reflective with the music doing it's best to create the appropriately dour atmosphere. Like a steady sea shanty or a classic piece of folk songwriting 'To the ghosts....' sounds authentic and traditional whilst still remaining fresh to the ear. The B-side is a rather ambitious stab at a Tom Waits/Afghan Whigs influenced bar blues outburst full of boozy screams and wails that i've just noticed is a Blind Willie McTell cover.
