6Blocc vs R.A.W - High Summer

In summer 2008, 6Blocc, fresh from a huge tour visiting Europe, Russia, and parts of the Middle East, and the completion of both the ‘Analog Clash’ mix CD for LoDubs, stopped off for two dates in Portland, Oregon. The first was at an un-named underground gig, playing primarily dancehall. The second was “Various”, the renowned clubnight largely responsible for popularizing dubstep and bass in the Northwest USA, hosting a special party to celebrate the release of ‘Analog Clash’. And during the daylight hours between, he went about the business of what any true practitioner of the sound commits to: digging for tunes in the local record stores. Jump-cut : 6Blocc (and his alter ego, R.A.W.) arrive at “Various”, carrying a crumpled paper bag containing the previous hours’ harvest of dancehall 7”s &12"s, and oddly enough, a copy of ‘Moving Pictures’ by Rush (the Canadian prog-rockers, not DJ Rush). In the other arm, he held an assortment of private dubs, many of which will never see amplification outside a live set like the one captured on this CD. Quite casually, and without any hesitation, these disparate elements were worked into a DJ set which progressed ferociously from steppy D&B to dancehall to some of the most visceral ragga jungle tracks ever heard, on equal par with golden age ‘ardkore like Remarc, SL2, Ragga Twins and SUAD, or contemporary punishers like Bong Ra, Soundmurderer, and Murderbot. However, this was only the beginning : in a disaster movie-worthy moment of audio drama, a rhythm transition arrived that feelt like the Earth being dropped out from under the venue, with the only remaining suspending force being unbelievably powerful sub bass. In that moment, the transition of R.A.W. to 6Blocc was complete, and the journey into sound pushed ahead with a slew of mighty thick 6B dubs that are unlikely ever be circulated outside this mix. A classic night in bass-driven club dynamics, witnessed by the few but frozen in the circuits for the pleasure of the many, recorded in absolutely top grade audio. Expect this limited edition high quality CDR release to become much-prized in double-quick time.
