DJG - The Gate / Obsessed

The Gate / Obsessed by DJG

DJG, a long time resident of the San Francisco area, and current occupant of the fabled locale known as Lower Haight, has yet to commit an artifact of his sound to permanent record this is not a clear example of absolute austere atmosphere and pronounced, pointed class. In his relatively short discography since debuting in 2008, quality dominates quantity, marking him out a great artist in the dub & bass movement. Titles like ‘Shadow Skanking’, ‘Buena Vista’ and ‘Ghost Town’ paint an immediate mental picture of the moods evoked in his productions, and those listeners who already know … they know. Ironically, it is the subtlety of this man’s productions that grow to become the over-riding atmospheric element, and therein lies their irresistable swirling pull. And so we turn our attention to ‘The Gate, a plunging dub-heavy builder tinged with Indian raga influences and a multitude of low frequency elemental interplay. On the other side, ‘Obsessed’ is a gradual progression of stately melodic beauty, rich with exotic eastern promise, sounding like some forgotten synth psyche rock genius of the 70's, had they possessed such a toolkit. Both are further examples of a singular and expressively individual sound created by DJG that leave an instant memory imprint upon the listener. Limited run of 400 copies including free CD of both tracks.
