The sleeve on the new self-titled White Hills LP is TRIPLE mint! It's embossing gone crackers! It's all shiny so you can use it as a mirror with which to groom your lank stoner hair! Seriously, I was really tempted to just take one straight away without even hearing the thing. Luckily the sonics are highly satisfying too, particularly the ridiculously fuzzy clankiness of the bass on the big rockers, grooving epically over their usual mixture of loose, heavy riffing and wailing solos. That's essentially what you're in for but they do occasionally meander from that path, branching out into a short experimental folk interlude and a longer track which verges on psychedelic post-rock. Some words from the inlay sheet will paint a picture for you: 'reaching out to kiss the sun', 'burn my eyes', 'I'm fried', 'we are the sunshine', 'the earth cries' etc. etc. Typical space rock guff and all the better for it! You know, I never realised Kid Millions from Oneida drummed for these lads.. Kinda makes sense though
