Nedry
Condors
A Norman Records recommendation (4th February 2010)

This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.
Monotreme are back with a new album by Nedry which is an interesting one. From the off you'll be intrigued by the interesting sound that they've managed to develop. 'Condors' is perhaps the first dubstep/post-rock/ electronica hybrid with someone who sounds a bit like Bjork singing. It's a bonkers sound alright and it sounds like it just shouldn't work but after my first listen I'm totally hooked and it really does work. It's crazy! You get some mellow dubby basslines with the trademark dubstep wobble, with some electronics and guitars that remind me a bit of Thom Yorke's Eraser and over them there's this beautiful voice swanning in which sounds a bit like Bjork (at times!) The other comparison that comes to mind is Lamb but all dubsteppy or perhaps a more accurate one could be Portishead (who straddle genres with their massive pop legs). The quality is there though! There's a mixture of more downbeat and upbeat tracks which all work together and help the album flow. Check out 'Condors' and 'Apples & Pears for two totally slicing tracks..... There's a real dark element album to the album... Just listen to the foreboding bass on the albums final track 'Where The Dead Birds Go'. It's an astonishing listen and it's really good to hear someone do something different.

What their label says...
Monotreme Record is very proud to be releasing the debut album of London UK trio Nedry, whose gorgeous fusion of electronica, instrumental rock, dub-step rhythms and hauntingly beautiful vocals has already generated quite a well-deserved buzz in the UK media. Nedry is Matt Parker, Chris Amblin and Ayu Okakita. Nedry create music to bounce to, rock-out to and get lost in. Their beautiful sound and arresting beats are from and for the ‘post-’ generation. Their sound is dark and ambient but broken-up and lifted by moments of glitch and fuzzy, melodic guitars. Both live and on record they use innovative production techniques to create a truly original sound. Nedry started performing, producing and recording in summer 2008. In a little over a year they've made waves on the UK electronic music scene, sharing stages with the likes of Pivot (Warp), Maps (MUTE), The Gaslamp Killer (Brainfeeder) and Daedelus (Ninja Tune). Nedry have steadily gathered critical acclaim since they self-released their 'SZ EP', and support from the likes of Q Magazine and The Times as well as airplay on a host of radio stations including XFM, Resonance FM, BBC 6Music and BBC Radio 1 has assured them as one of the most exciting bands to emerge in 2009. BBC Radio 1 DJ and new music guru Huw Stephens in particular has championed the Nedry sound, inviting them to the famous Maida Vale studios to record a live session for his show. On the eve of their autumn tour of Japan, they signed a deal with UK based label Monotreme Records (65daysofstatic, Jeniferever, Barzin) who will be bringing their debut album, 'Condors' to a worldwide audience. Press/radio so far: Q, Times Music, Stool Pigeon, The 405, Radio 1: Huw Stephens (session and airplay),Bethan Elfyn , Mary Ann Hobbs, 6Music: Tom Robinson, Xfm: John Kennedy, Resonance FM: Ruth Barnes (live session). "...sent shiver's down my spine….like Thom Yorke’s Eraser with a bit of a Dubstep vibe and some Post-Rock influences…” Huw Stephens - Radio 1 / "Intriguing and fantastic!" John Kennedy – XFM / "We love Nedry on this show!" Tom Robinson - BBC 6 Music / "Gently skittering electronics and slow-building, spacious ambience - Nedry's gorgeous, minimal soundscapes are tailor made for the wee hours." Q Mag / "Synthed drums, ecstatic guitar. Very much liking it. A sorta apocalyptic hip-pop. Like a bleak Dan Black." Times Music / "Evoking everything from Bjork to Joanna Newsom and Beth Gibbons herself; and when they're fusing this talent with the subtle waves and the techno punch on closer 'Where the dead birds go' and undoubted highlight 'Swan Ocean', it's highly innovative stuff." Rock-A-Rolla / "...eyeing post-rock's rainswept soundscapes from afar while ensuring the bass and beat are kept running" The Stool Pigeon.
