Fucking hell. Now I understand totally where Fucked Up came from. After loving the 'Chemistry....' LP but being totally perplexed by the previous 'Hidden World' jobber, it's nice to hear exactly how they began with singles compilation opus 'Couple Tracks'. Whereas most hardcore bands sound pretty ripped & vicious, FU apply a bit of a good-time groove to a lot of their songs with these neat little riffs snaking around under the wind tunnel of distortion without diluting their fierce punk ethos. I must say, they do look & sound utterly vital to me, even their dialogue sample plundering is second to none. I can't imagine how mental that show at Bradford 1in12 must've been, what a shame I missed him scaring all those poor West Yorkies with blood all over his torso! I heard he was posing like a psycho at the bottom of once legendary stripper ambler, Ivegate for hideous teeny rag NME. Nice....‘Couple Tracks: 2002-2009’ contains 25 songs and is designed as a sequel to their earlier compilation, ‘Epics In Minutes’ (Deranged, 2004). The cover photographs for both are identical in set-up, taking in to account additions in personnel, and this new compilation comes with complete illustrated discography of the contents, with extensive liner notes about each song.
‘Couple Tracks: Singles 2002-2009’ spans an extraordinarily varied (and extraordinarily collectible) musical career that has mainly been documented on 7” vinyl singles released around the world on many labels in many countries. Chronologically, it ranges from the A-side of their first single, ‘No Pasarán’, a commentary on the Spanish Civil War released on Deranged in 2002, to the fast alternate take of ‘No Epiphany’, their latest 7″ on Matador from early 2009. Aside some their rarest moments, the compilation also contains five unreleased tracks; all having been lovingly remastered.
