Haruki is the working pseudonym of Boris Snauwaert, a composer and sound enthusiast residing in Gent, Belgium. He explains that 'To Humble a Nest' was created and influenced by the concept of changing environments, for example, walking through a city or landscape, using a combination of light and harsh tones (be it acoustic, digital, dirty, clean etc) to give the listener the impression of movement and evolution. 'To Humble a Nest' shares alot in common with industrial soundtrack music due to it's humming, buzzing tones and reverberant tonal dins that are present throughout. Thankfully, surprises lurk around every corner, be it odd sonic outbursts or strange monotonal piano motifs, you are always kept on your toes. Droning strings and dramatic trumpets add depth to these compositions and leave me feeling tense, confused yet absorbed in the atmosphere. Tough work with a hangover but definitely worth a listen, 'To Humble a Nest' is a unique and strange beast.Haruki aka Boris Snauwaert lives and makes music in Gent, Belgium.
"For this album I wanted to create a raw, free-floating, and amorphous kind of music where all kinds of sounds (acoustic and digital, dirty and clean, sweet and irritating) cling together to make up an abstract but somehow organic tangle. There’s quite a bit of walking, breathing and ticking in these tracks. To me, the album feels like a walk through different types of spaces (be it cities, suburbs, non-spaces between countryside and the city, parks, houses or other kinds of buildings) with sounds floating in and out of hearing. Listening with headphones is recommended." – BS
