Just got a bunch of sweet imports from the Kill Shamen label. First up is a split 12" from Hiroshima Rocks Around and Bipolar Bear. Hiroshima Rocks Around are an Italy post punk band affiliated with the duo Trouble Vs Glue and they make an awesome rockin' noise. The vibe is garage rock orientated but i can hear the XBXRX, Weasel Walter, Load records influence too. Highlights are the murky, distorto mayhem of 'Not Right' and the Jesus Lizard/Pissed Jeans-esque 'Fogna'. Bipolar bear (awesome name don't you think...?) don't fare quite as well but still kick ass, albeit in a late nineties post punk/rock kinda way. Dynamically strong and steeped in distortion and reverb, Bipolar Bear sound huge! Opener 'Graves' is the cheekiest of the offerings here, mainly due to the wiry guitar melody and solid rhythm section but the rest ain't too shabby neither. Get involved.A split release between Kill Shaman and Italy’s NO=FI Records (whose members happen to be in Hiroshima Rocks Around) joins these two wildly creative bands. Italy’s Hiroshima Rocks Around bang out half-a-dozen skronk punk tracks, blaring elements of post-punk, garage, and avant noise mish-mash through a distorted wall of brilliantly piercing guitars, saxophone, and brutal drums. If you heard their 7″ on S-S a couple of years ago, this will feed your need. Los Angeles’ Bipolar Bear give us 5 tracks of post-punk, angular apocalyptic punk that they refer to as “grunge-gaze” for fun. Both bands eat glass and will destroy your record player. Highly recommended.
