If you like a cracking melody, orchestration that puts in mind Pet Sounds
and a thought provoking lyric then Gold Sounds are for you. What's more,
on 14th December the band are set to release their debut EP, Home Schooled
EP, through CRC Music. Home Schooled EP is a collection of four songs that
balance the soaring harmonies of the sweet, You’re a Vision and the fun of So
It Goes with the bound of Prints, all wrapped up with the lyrical sagacity of
Sneinton Boulevard.
Taken from the title of a song on their musical muses, Pavement’s, highly
acclaimed album Crooked Rain, the name Gold Sounds could not be more
befitting for this boundless five piece. Originally stemming from the
musical partnership of George Napthine and William Reid, forged on the
autumnal streets of Nottingham, Gold Sounds are completed by John
Barrett, James Johnston and Matthew Williams. And not content with just a
quintet for this recording, the boys recruited all their musical mates to fo3.2rm
the Gold Sounds Orchestra. Woodwind and brass galore tumble joyfully
through the title track So It Goes like an Alka Seltzer in Ribena. There's even
a lute.
Following a spurring championing on their hometown BBC Nottingham
radio, the lads have upped sticks and headed to London to chance their
arm. The capital's DJs Tom Robinson (BBC6) and John Kennedy (XFM)
have already voiced their support. “They sound, well, simply golden….”
Said John. Gold Sounds will be strutting their stuff later this month at
Tom's Introducing show two-year birthday celebrations.
Invitations to perform have come thick and fast and include Club Fandango
on November 11th, Curious Generation and Bloody Awful Poetry at
Madame JoJos. Check them out live, you won't be disappointed…

GOLD SOUNDS HOME SCHOOLED EPGold Sounds are a London based 5 piece that have been bubbling away on the London scene for a couple of years now, and just released their first EP. Although their name has more than a nod to 'Pavement', their sound is firmly in 'The Shins' camp, weaving melodies around the vocals of lyricist and front man George Napthine.'So It Goes' is a short, catchy, and marvelously heartfelt song that the band made a brilliant stop motion video for (directed by Harry Dwyer) and can be seen on You Tube. Amazingly, the song was recorded by bassist William Reid in his flat and is accompanied by an ensemble of woodwind and brass instruments that include members of The Rumble Strips. The remainder of the EP was recorded and mixed by Pete Fletcher at the First Love Studio in Nottingham. Many of the band originally hail from or resided in Nottingham and the final song on the EP, 'Sneinton Boulevard' takes its name from a street where the band lived. Their sound encapsulates Napthine's poetic lyricism, four part harmonies, an upbeat take on the darker sides of life & love, and great musicianship. Recently hand picked by BBC6's Tom Robinson to perform at his 'Fresh On The Net' festival at the Riverside Studios in London, and with an EP launch last week supported by Eugene McGuinness, GoldSounds look set to continue making waves in 2010.
