I once quite liked Good Shoes and their jerky, minimal guitar pop but realised as soon as an album was expected of them I realised the constraints of their stripped back style would start to grate within the realms of a full lengther (oo-er missus) They've now got a new double 'A' single out, regardless of the way an ex-member was talking (I thought they may have split up) They've now gone in a funkier, dancier direction, slightly Franz-y, a bit Rakes-y - vaguely sprinkled with the kind of frisky post-hardcore funk wibble that Dischord chappies Q and Not U did lots better a few years ago but blighted by that very English Foals/Bloc Party/Hot Chip/Youthmovies airiness which seems to make me loose interest after 30 seconds. Neither 'Under Control' or 'Talk' are at all bad, just a bit over-familiar & generic. Aroma: chips, freshly mown grass, dog poo (caught in blades).‘Under Control’ features Good Shoes at their ‗danceable‘ best
with this bouncing, rocking indie dancefloor filler about the number
1 suburban pastime – sex. As usual, the track is super melodic and
catchy, but heavier than past offerings. Still with the trademark
Good Shoes sound that makes them one of the most exciting and
unique bands in Britain.
The video features dancing female bodybuilders and is already a
viral smash on YouTube with 20k views in its first week.
Includes the exclusive B side ‘Talk.
