Meso Meso is the solo project of Japanese artist Yukimo and on her 'Spoon' album she comes across sounding like a shy little pixie when she sings. A really gentle and pretty sound that recalls Mum in parts. She plays accordion, melodica, glockenspiel and toys and the overall feel is like a psychedelic twinkly wonderland that's weeping with sadness. At times it sounds extremely delicate and fragile with a lovely balance of sounding somewhat poppy yet retaining an experimental edge. It's quite emotional stuff and I think this could well appeal to those of you that enjoy listening to Small Color and The Tenniscoats.* For fans of : Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir (aka Múm, Mice Parade), Piana, Lullatone and Lau Nau.
meso meso is a Tokyo based female musician Yumiko's solo project. She is also a member of Shugo Tokumaru's band and playing accordion, melodica, glockenspeil and toys in the band.
One year after the release of her debut album "mitten" on Lacies' Records, she developed her songs & lyrics writing skills and made the delicately polished new album "spoon".
Influenced by children's songs, especially songs which have melancholic atmosphere, she wove various acoustic instruments like pianos, accordions, acoustic guitars, melodicas, lots of toys and her characteristic child-like whispered vocal, and created sweet, fragile and unprotected folk songs.
meso meso's music apparently sounds pop and charming but it actually has more complicated emotions such as sadness and loneliness. And those factors generated subtle psychedelia in her music. Her music also reflected Yumiko's personal character extremely shy.
meso meso has released the first album "mitten" from Lacies' Records in 2008. Lacies' records is a new label of Andrew Hargreaves of The Boats and Alice Clarke in Manchester, UK.
