Oh man I SO love these Sacred Bones record sleeves, even before the needle hits the record I'm thinking I wanna take this home with me.... So a couple of records on the label this week, one by The Rebel and the one that is playing right now by Children's Hospital which frankly sounds super excellent. This is the duo's debut release, previously being involved in A-Frames/Intelligence/Rodent Plague/afcgt. This really is music that you just cannot put in a box, I love the primitive drum machine sounds, disjointed rhythms, disembodied vocals, scuzzy production. It's strange, at moments really spaced out and then like raw punk rock. They switch modes with ease with some cool downer vibes.Alone & Together is the debut release from Children s Hospital.If their despondent sounds remind you of something you may have once heard its because this is the latest project from the A-Frames/Intelligence/Rodent Plague/afcgt axis. Reminiscent of the brooding and gray skyline of their hometownof Seattle the duo hover between abstract soundscape compositions, Jandek inspired bouts of melancholy droned out dementia, and stripped apart abrasive punk...often combining several of these forms at once. If recent Rodent Plague releases on Killshaman and Jerkave Tapes are any indication it would be ill-advised to sleep on Children s Hospital.
