This is news to me but Daniel McCormick, guitarist in Black Eyes and Mi Ami has a slow record out this week under the pseudonym Sex Worker. The album 'The Labor of Love', dedicated to 'all trafficked humans and enslaved bodies', is a strange and potentially mighty beast. The first side is made up of one lengthy track entitled 'PTSD' which begins life in a minimalist fashion only to boil over with high pitch vocal screams, odd dub inspired pulses with screeching repeato feedback. It's sounds less harrowing to the ear than it does on paper...Things take a melodious turn on 'Without You (couldn't be alone)' and sees McCormick delving into lo-fi ambient territory with a cool pulsing phrase backed with distant wails of feedback. It comes out sounding a little like chilled out Ducktails stuff but eventually evolves into something much uglier and hateful, almost spiteful. An amazing record and a pleasant surprise for me....ace.Daniel from Mi Ami (Touch & Go) and Black Eyes (Dischord) goes solo, this is his vinyl debut. dubbed-out kraut-influenced pulsing psycho-dance songs, super minimal at times and extremely damaged and noisy in others. very unique. mastered by James Plotkin.
