New thing on Squirrel = The Blanche Hudson Weekend (apparently featuring ex-members of The Manhattan Love Suicides). Hey they're using 'Be My Baby' style drums, I couldn't have guessed that'd be the case before I'd even put it on. If you're gonna do it at least have Bobby Gillespie playing it stood up, looking like a bit of a plank. I'm sure you all know what you're getting with Squirrel by now and whether you're into it or not.. Doo-wop, lo-fi, Velvets, JAMC, Spector, all that stuff. 'Crying Shame' is as good an example of what they do as I've heard though. On the B-side you've got one that's a stormier shoegazier wall of sound and another that amps it up a notch further. Fans'll dig it the Letters To Daddy EPTracklisting :-
1. Crying Shame
2. The Last Ride
3. Noise And Fury
The Blanche Hudson Weekend is here. Featuring Caroline and Darren (ex-Manhattan Love Suicides) along with a bunch of other Weekenders , and bringing to you all kinds of noise , fuzz , melody , dissonance , rawness , killer tunes and buzzsaw pop. Take a bit of 1960s girl group sounds , mix with Girls In The Garage type ramshackle production , add some gun slugging guitars and sugar sweet vocals with a keen ear for a great hook , then lock the doors , bolt the windows , switch off the phone , kill the lights , turn up the volume to ear splitting levels and enjoy The Blanche Hudson Weekend.
