Warpaint are the latest signings to Rough Trade, this their debut will be on Manimal for the World and their next album will be on Rough Trade. Los Angeles' mystical Warpaint weave majestic, haiku-like guitars, hypnotic vocals, and driving post-punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between the soundscapes of psychedelia / shoegaze, the haunting intimacy of folk, and rock's primal heaviness. At the core of the band are childhood friends Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman who both met bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg at a commercial casting audition in LA. The trio quickly traded in their headshots for guitars and the fertile, diverse LA music scene has been much better for it since. Playing to many captivated audiences in LA, Warpaint has recently opened for acts like Little Joy, The Black Heart Procession, The Slits, among many others and earlier this year they self-released their debut EP "Exquisite Corpse" going straight to # 1 on the Amoeba local artists charts. While already a much buzzed about entity in LA, Warpaint are just beginning to stir the masses with recent national (and international) praise from the FADER, The Independent UK, Dazed and Confused, and URB. Also, the increasingly relevant LA label Manimal Vinyl (Hecuba, Rainbow Arabia) will be giving "Exquisite Corpse" an official release on vinyl/CD this September complete with a new bonus track. Expertly mixed by John Frusciante, the album successfully captures the band's sonic textures and playful dynamism Warpaint is notorious for creating live. Recently, the band solidified their live line-up with drummer/multi-instrumentalist Josh Klinghoffer now in tow (the bands lineage of drummers have previously included DJ David Orlando and Jenny Lee's sister Shannyn Sossamon). Onstage, Warpaint’s disarmingly authentic package can shake a room into a dance frenzy—while simultaneously holding it in a trance-like dreamworld. With plans to tour throughout the end of of 2009, Warpaint are poised to win over new fans willing to join them on their complex, melodic, dark odyssey. This will be all over the press, review confirmed for Mojo, Guardian, NME, Rocksound, Artrocker, Clash, Dazed, Organ and many more still tbc. "If you're feeling bold, you might point out the possibility of Warpaint usurping Chan Marshall's throne." Pitchfork Media / "A pleasure to behold, whipping up a slowly simmering maelstrom of spooky Cat Power and early Cure-inspired rock." LA Times / "Exquisite Corpse is the debut release from Los Angeles fuzzy, cosmic heartbreak quartet Warpaint...a collection of magical psychedelia drifting over sublime moments of raw melody courtesy of the three free ethereal vocalists...Kinda Sonic Youth and Cat Power with more Los Angeles nightfall." - Dazed and Confused / "They make a quite lovely sound with dreamy vocals, off-kilter hazy guitars and elements of psychedelia" - Independent UK / Tracks : stars/ elephants/ billie holiday/ beetles/ burgundy/ crimson

This is by miles one of the greatest all girl bands I have ever heard. Their musical sound is experimental and haunting (Bat for lashes), with a constant swagger (Nirvana and Arctic Monkeys). Vocally they sound like angels that flow ethereally over the slower tempos, bringing a sexier ghetto vibe on faster tracks. Each song is compelling and stand out. Great musicians with beautiful voices, commanding the same respect as the best indie rock male bands, without losing authenticity of what only a girl can bring. This is True Girlpower!
