OVERVIEW: BEN GIBBARD (Death Cab For Cutie) has co-written the soundtrack for this film w/ JAY FARRAR (Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt). If you aren't familiar w/ JACK KEROUAC's books -- he is a bit of a cult icon around the world and is recognized as one of the leading beat poets if not the leading pioneer in the Beat Generation. His friends were Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs and Neal Cassidy. Also iconic in their own right. He has inspired so many past writers and musicians and continues to do so into modern day. KEROUAC is mostly noted for ON THE ROAD & DHARMA BUMS which many of you may have read at some point...
 
BIG SUR, which was written in 1961, was his last great novel before dying, defeated & lonesome, on OCTOBER 21st, 1969.
