Smalltown America have stumbled upon the genius of Alan MX and they are keen for us to do the same. 'Warpsichord' is the debut album from this much touted singer/composer/producer and sees the man on fine form, rocking the beat hard whilst maintaining a melodic sensibility that may see the him dent the pop charts sometime in the future. The beats are mangled and the vocals are unique in a Thom Yorke/Bjork sort of way thus giving me the impression that Alan MX is a traditional indie pop songwriter with bonus computer skills (a much needed skill in these modern times) and a taste for block rocking beats, skitterish synth/ string lines and mutant electronics. Interesting stuff.Staggering work of heartbreaking electro genius - debut album by Britain's soon to be not best kept secret Alan MX. For Fans Of: Bjork, Matmos, Peaches, PJ Harvey & Vincent Gallo. Alan MX's debut album ‘Warpsichord' is set for release on Smalltown America as a limited edition CD and digital download. "Patrick Wolf had better watch out..." Gay Times. Alan MX combines Thom Yorke melodic sensibility with thumping Peaches breaks, 'Warpsichord' is a study of skittering beats, jittering string samples and lyrics that touch on the subtle nuances of love and relationships in the 21st century. Alan MX is a musician that is easy to take to one's heart - “When I think about it, most music is an expression of love. Or songs, anyway. The most common subject of a song is love or lust. If someone was to renounce or ignore their sexuality as a musician, I think it limits their accessibility.” Open, honest, gorgeous and with the tunes to match, Alan MX is one to watch.
