I'm reliably informed that Johnny Foreigner are quite a popular combo and although it's not remotely my thing, from listening to Grace and the Bigger Picture I can kind of see why. It's got girl/boy vocals and it's a bit shouty and spunky and jagged and spiky but not enough to scare your gran or anything. It's sort of old school emo rock (think Jimmy Eat World) crossed with indie pop, I think, and it's irrepressable exhuberance brings to mind the bouncy scamps of Los Campesinos.• After the widespread critical praise garnered by their first album ‘Waited Up Til It Was Light’,
Birmingham three-piece Johnny Foreigner return with their second album ‘Grace And The
Bigger Picture’, produced by New York based Alex Newport whose previous credits include
alternative legends At The Drive-In, The Mars Volta, Rival Schools and Death Cab For
Cutie.
• 2008 saw Johnny Foreigner complete two national headline tours as well as support slots with
Operator Please, Idlewild, Los Campesinos!, Young Knives, The Subways and Blood
Red Shoes. The band followed on into 2009 in similar style having already completed a
European tour with Sky Larkin, a national tour with Hundred Reasons, a headline tour of the
UK, a return to the Great Escape Festival, and an appearance at the Hop Farm Festival.
• October 2009 will see the band embark on their biggest national tour to date in support of
‘Grace And The Bigger Picture’ and their forthcoming single ‘Criminals’, with support from indie
troubadours Tellison and female fronted punkers Japanese Voyeurs.
