This record left our Business Lady feeling happy.

Veteran axe manipulator and king of ambient experimentation Peter Wright has blessed us lucky folk at Norman's with a new, vinyl only release entitled 'Bright Failing Star' out now on Release the Bats. Taking a slightly different approach to Install's 'Snow Blind' CD from earlier this year, 'Bright Failing Star' is a somber affair with opener 'Magnetic' setting the tone for the rest of the album. This is a slow burning ambient piece that whirs around the brain in a rather nauseating manner and yet it's strangely blissful, like a chanted mantra or a bout of meditation. The tone here is colder and darker than on previous albums but that makes for a pleasant change and sorta fits in nicely with the seasonal change to cold and dark days. Smatterings of found sounds and piano colour 'Amtrak' and I'm pretty sure I can here bowed strings on the mammoth final track 'Arrest', this may be a violin but is more than likely some possessed super skilled guitar trickery on Wright's behalf. So, a record full of winters discontent but showing hints of brighter seasons to come.

What their label says...

Born in New Zealand and a true veteran of the experimental scene, Peter Wright has spent more than a decade developing his mesmerizing guitar work close to perfection. As fellow New Zealand underground acts like Antony Milton and Birchville Cat Motel, Peter Wright has been very prolific during the years and released a huge amount of releases around the world. Keyworks in the discography is Desolate Beauty Violence (Ikuisuus, 2005), Yellow Horizon (Pseudo Arcana, 2005) and Snow Blind (Install, 2009), all truly fantastic albums that each one stands on it's own. RTB are very proud to present Bright Failing Star, the first vinyl-only album from Peter Wright! Perhaps a bit more slow-paced and somber than other of his recordings, the sounds on Bright Failing Star are calm while yet being powerful. With the beautiful open air dynamics and the somewhat colder feeling, the subtle tones of Bright Failing Star are very autumn-like. Coldness with a warm undertone, darkness with some hints of light. Organic drone music at it s best. Assembled with recordings from England, USA and Norway. Mastered by Viktor Ottosson. Limited to 300 copies, black vinyl, full colour artwork by Peter Wright.
