OVERVIEW:

Where there’s a home, there’s a heart, and for the formerly somewhat crowded musical co-operative Homelife, that heart has always been Paddy Steer and Tony Burnside (aka Anton Burns).

Founded in 1997, Homelife has shambled and gambled through four albums with countless different line-ups, contributors and at times up to eighteen members.  That is, until now. New album, ‘Exotic Interlude’, is the product of a stripped back, concentrated version of the Homelife recipe consisting of founders Paddy and Tony.  ‘Up to now it’s been pretty scatterbrained,’ admits Tony, ‘but now the intent is clearer and the album’s got a stronger emotional grounding.’ Exotic Interlude signals a return to the simplicity and clarity of their eponymous debut album ‘Homelife’, allowing the strong melodies and lucid lyricism to take centre stage.

The old collaborative sound that was scattered and voluminous has gained focus and (whisper it) matured. Although Paddy’s first love was punk, and Tony cites Hendrix as his introduction to the power of music, Johnny Cash and Gillian Welch’s names come up first when discussing current influences, signalling a more mellow acoustic and an emphasis on song writing.
