“For this spectacularly gnarly live recording, The Restless Dead chose to perform a set comprised entirely of tunes originally composed by frequent collaborator C Joynes. Filling the room with a slowburning aural smog, the stark folk structures of the originals are filtered through a sea of fluctuating frequencies and fluttering speakertone, revealed then obscured in the manner of distantly-received radio broadcasts. As the performance gains charge and momentum, the sound blossoms to take in reverb-laden slowcore, middle-eastern modes, ecstatic garage primitivism and barely-there drag-racer rock moves, all generated by equipment of uncertain provenance. Enveloped in the murk, the audience for the most part maintain a zoned silence throughout, giving sections of this recording an eerily disembodied quality. While the sonics might give the impression of a rudimentary cassette bootleg, with audio fidelity struggling to emerge through layers of magnetic tape crud and dictaphone hiss, it is claimed that this is a detailed and accurate document of the sound in that room on the night.”
