Klara and Johanna Söderberg have been gathering fans apace throughout 2009 since the release of their ‘Drunken Trees’ EP (originally released on The Knife’s Rabid label and picked up for the UK by Wichita Recordings). This has shown no sign of slowing over the busy pan-Euro festival season with audiences falling at their feet, enraptured by their shimmering yet explosive voices and wise-beyond-their-years, country-tinged pop.
Noted for their astonishing interpretations of other artist’s material, First Aid Kit are now unveiling some remarkable songs of their own. The first flourishes can be heard on the ‘Hard Believer’ single due out on October 5th to coincide with their support tour with Slow Club and joint headline tour with Fanfarlo. A masterly assured step forwards, it could even act as an alternative clarion call with the rousingly urgent line: “And it’s one life and it’s this life and it’s beautiful”.
Following on from the YouTube phenomenon surrounding their cover of Fleet Foxes ‘Tiger Mountain Peasant Song’ (currently at over 600,000 views), First Aid Kit have decided to get their video camera out again this summer, requesting ideas and suggestions on songs that you’d like them to cover by contacting them through Twitter. Message them at @faksessions – the girls will make a track selection and film themselves singing and playing in various locations around their town. If it is anything like their first session - a revamped version of ‘Universal Soldier’ by Buffy Sainte-Marie – we are all in for bountiful surprises.
