“They have ambition and flare and a singer with a beautiful voice; one of those special,
poetic voices, which dips and soars above their jangling guitars.” Steve Lamacq
The Too Pure Singles Club return with The Crookes, a Sheffield-based outfit with a wily brand of 60s pop and wry lyrical turns. Though originating from different parts of the UK, the four members founded the band whilst together at University in Sheffield; their musical roots lying in Spector’s Wall of Sound, their stories from the stone walls of Yorkshire.
They join an ever-expanding cast on Too Pure – the label that previously brought PJ Harvey, Stereolab, Seefeel, Mouse On Mars and mclusky to the public domain – and their Singles Club roster following on from Pulled Apart By Horses, Peggy Sue, Skeletons, Bear Hands and Friendship who have all contributed 7”s (limited to 500 copies and individually numbered) in recent months.
