The Raincoats by The Raincoats

5...according to our on Thu 12 Nov, 2009.

The Raincoats are fucking mint!!! Their self-titled debut (recorded in 1979 for Rough Trade) is a must for fans of new wave and post punk. Available on CD and ultra tough, heavyweight vinyl with sweet liner notes, pictures, band tales and an intro from uber-fan Kurt Cobain, this is a must have purchase. In the current climate of girl groups such as the Vivian Girls blasting out mutant indie pop-garage rock it seems like an appropriate time for a re-appraisal of The Raincoats and their super skills.

We ThRee announce the reissue of the "The Raincoats" the legendary first album by The Raincoats originally released on Rough Trade Records in 1979.  Widely acclaimed as one of the musical highlights of the post punk period and a breakthrough moment for women in music, "The Raincoats" has been commercially unavailable for the past 10 years. The album was recorded in 1979 by Ana da Silva, Gina Birch, Palmolive and Vicky Aspinall and was produced by Geoff Travis and Mayo Thompson. We ThRee is The Raincoats' own label and we will release the vinyl LP on 19 October and a special edition enhanced CD on 9 November 2009.  The album has been re-mastered from original masters and the vinyl is pressed in heavyweight 180g and comes with a free mp3 download coupon. “I really don’t know much about The Raincoats except that they recorded some music that has affected me so much that whenever I hear it I’m reminded of a particular time in my life when I was (shall we say) extremely unhappy, lonely and bored. If it weren’t for the luxury of putting on that scratchy copy of The Raincoats’ first record, I would have had very few moments of peace”. Kurt Cobain in 1993.  The press campaign is by Stone Immaculate Press and so far the news story has produced an “ecstatic” response. There will be online pre-release promotion with the launch of The Raincoats web site in October. The band are performing a rare show and presenting their icons at the prestigious National Portrait Gallery in London on Friday 25th September and the documentary of the band, ‘The Raincoats – Fairytales’, directed by Gina Birch, will be screened at the Cambridge Film Festival on Saturday 26th September.  We are planning a special London show to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the album’s first release in mid November and the band will tour in Japan in 2010. The enhanced CD will be presold in 3 weeks time for a November release.
